1. WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND TABOURET SOLVAY STOOL?

Tabouret Solvay designed for the Solvay Chemical company in 1941-42, Jean Prouvé’s tabouret prioritizes wood, as metals were scarce during the War. Despite these limitations, the streamlined design is infused with Prouvé’s timeless structural principles: The circular seat is supported by an architectonic array of fin-like legs, joined by black, powder-coated steel hardware. The handsomely sturdy design can be used as a low stool or cocktail table between two lounge chairs.

French architect Jean Prouve was influenced by his father as an educator since childhood. His work always related to social consciousness, practicality in favor of the public was his priority.

2. TELL US ABOUT THE DESIGN

Tabouret Solvay is a simple, robust stool made of solid wood that reveals the designer’s signature of clear structural principles that can be found throughout the work of Jean Prouvé. The circular seat is supported by an architectonic array of fin-like legs, joined by black, powder-coated steel hardware. The handsomely sturdy design can be used as a low stool or cocktail table between two lounge chairs. The warm wood of the Tabouret Solvay Stool is the key to its cozy and comfortable look, despite its straight lines and diagonally arranged legs: The Solvay Stool is made of solid, oiled wood and its links made of steel provide the necessary stability and interesting contrast.
